WeWork opened the doors of its first location in Manhattan in 2010. Since then, the coworking giant has provided flexible shared workspaces and office services for hundreds of thousands of solo entrepreneurs and companies. Today, WeWork continues to experience solid demand for space. The new challenge? Help workers feel safe in the age of COVID-19, making air purification and indoor air quality top priorities.
That’s why WeWork tapped Global Plasma Solutions® (GPS®) to provide an affordable and highly effective air purification solution that could also yield energy savings.
WeWork ultimately installed GPS-DM48-AC, the world’s first auto-cleaning, lightweight, duct-mounted needlepoint bipolar ionization (NPBI®) electronic air cleaner designed for smaller applications. GPS-DM48-AC is a low-maintenance unit designed for indoor or outdoor duct mounting and can handle up to 4,800 CFM or 12 tons. The unit tackles airborne particulates, odors and pathogens (such as COVID-19) while lowering overall energy consumption and reducing facilities’ carbon footprint.
Following installation of the NPBI technology, WeWork netted greater than 50% savings on HVAC renovation costs by installing smaller air-handling equipment and shortening the building upfit timeline. WeWork also reduced the amount of energy required to condition their spaces, realizing savings in operating expenses while creating “a world where people work to make a life.”
